Elle est une des femmes les plus instruites de son temps.

Séduite par la Réforme, elle encourage Lefevre d'Etaples (voir à Renée de France ), connaît Calvin et protège les Protestants.

Elle réunit de nombreux érudits à la cour de Navarre : Robert Estienne, Bonaventure Des Périers, Marot, Rabelais.

Elle écrit et son oeuvre la plus célèbre est l'Heptaméron, recueil de nouvelles et contes lestes dans la lignée du Décaméron. (note rédigée pour le logiciel Heredis)
