Note

Il assure la régence de son neveu Charles VI en 1380.

Frère aîné de Charles V, il a été désigner pour exercer la régence, avec l'aide d'un grand conseil composé de 50 notables. Il tente d'exercer seul le pouvoir et éloigne les ducs de Bourgogne et de Berry, ses frères, ainsi que le duc de Bourbon, frère de la reine Jeanne, mère du jeune roi. Toutefois il est accaparé à partir de 1382 par ses préparatifs guerriers en Italie.

Il est nommé héritier du royaume de Naples par la reine Jeanne Ière en 1380 mais il n'arrive pas à le conquérir sur Charles III de Duras, roi de Hongrie (fils adoptif de la reine Jeanne Ière qu'il fait assassiner).
