Annulment	Répudiée en 867 puis reprise en 858, le mariage est définitivement annulé le 28 avril 862 au concil d'Aix-la-Chapelle par une assemblée d'évêques.
Note	A la mort de leurs père (Lothaire 1er), Louis II le Jeune (822-875) obtient l'Itale avec le titre d'empereur, son frère Lothaire II, devient roi de Lorraine tandis que le troisième, Charles, devient roi de Provence (son territoire s'étendait entre le Rhône, les Alpes et la Méditerranée avec le Lyonnais, le Viennois, le Vivarais, l'Uzège et la Provence. Mais Charles le Jeune meurt sans postérité et ses frères se partagent ses états. Lothaire II obtient, à l'amiable !!, le Vivarais, le Viennois et le Lyonnais. Louis II, soutenu par le pape, s'empare de la Provence. Ce partage fut signé le 30 avril 863 au château de Mantaille (Drome 26). Le 8 août 875 Lothaire II meurt à Plaisance, son frère Louis II, roi d'Italie, est le légitime prétendant du royaume de Lorraine mais il est dans l'incapacité de prendre sa succession car il était attaqué dans l'Italie méridionale par les Sarrasins, quant à Louis le Germanique, leur oncle, gravement malade à Ratisbonne, il est alors retenu à l'extrémité orientale de son royaumepar une guerre contre les vénèdes. C'est Charles II, le Chauve, cette fois-ci le plus rapide qui prendra la succession et se fera couronné roi de Lorraine dans la basilique de Saint-Etienne. CdBdM
